5 More Top Tips: What You Need to Know Before Your Boudoir Experience

We have written a few of these before, but as the years go on we continue to learn - which means the tips keep coming! Below you will find some of the best tips we have to give you around how to prepare for a Boudoir shoot, and how to make sure that you fall in love with your Boudoir photos. They come from different sources; from within the team itself and from other Divas too.

As we say with everything though, these tips are just guidance. The important thing about Boudoir is that it expresses YOU. We can give you guidance based on our experience, but when it comes to tips like fake tan and shoe choice please feel free to ignore us. The golden rule is always, if it makes you feel good, wear it!

1 - Bring a special outfit for after your Boudoir Photoshoot

We actually can’t claim any credit for this one! A Diva came in last week, and as she was showing us her outfits for her Boudoir experience, she pulled out a gorgeous gold dress explaining that it wasn’t for the shoot, but after. She explained that someone on the VIP Group had told her that she will be feeling so confident after her photoshoot that she would want to put on a fancy outfit! It is a brilliant tip. Not only will you be feeling great, your make-up will be professionally done so why not finish the look with a gorgeous outfit that you always want the excuse to wear? You’ll be turning up (as per our instructions) in loose fitting clothing (so you don’t leave marks on your skin) so it’s funny to have a different, more special outfit to change into after.

This works well with our other favourite tip, if you can, make some fun plans for after your experience. You’ll be feeling and looking amazing so why not plan Girls Drinks? A date night? Take yourself on a solo trip to Bath? The world is your osyster!

2 - Avoid Open-Toed Shoes

If you love open-toed shoes, you wear the open-toed shoes! We only say to avoid them because sometimes it can cause your feet to fall forwards and your toes bunch up together, which can be noticeable in the boudoir photos. It’s not the end of the world, it is just a body doing what bodies do but if it’s the type of thing that would distract you in a photo, best to avoid them! Go for closed shoes instead! (Remember also, you don’t have to wear high heels - you can do barefoot, Docs, trainers etc etc!)

3 - Don’t feel the need to lather on the fake tan if you don’t normally!

A lot of people feel insecure about being “pale” so they ask us whether they should go out and get spray tans… The short answer here is, no. Why? Well, firstly, your skin is gorgeous as it is and, secondly, you know what patchy fake tan can be like. If you’re not used to wearing fake tan, mistakes can happen and you can be left feeling uneven and very, well, orange.

There is a caveat to this. If you are confident with the fake tan, or always wear it and don’t feel like YOU without it, by all means go for it!

Also, if you do put it on and it ends up patchy - do not sweat it. We can work our magic so it’s not noticeable!

4 - It is OKAY if you are on your period.

We work with hundreds of women every year, and lots of women have their Boudoir experience when their period is due. Or, in the case of the menopause, suffer with flooding. That is totally fine. I know our periods can sometimes make us feel less than sexy (bloating, grumpy, spotty - what fun) but I PROMISE you when I say it does not make a different to how you look or feel on the day of your Boudoir experience. We have had countless women come in during their period, and I have never once heard someone say it interfered with the day. Remember, you won’t look as bloated or as spotty as you feel before you come in! Our mind can be our own worst enemy.

Also, if you are heavier and you bleed on the floor or something like that, accidents happen. There are four women in the Divas team! We know what it is like. Plus, we have tampons and pads for you in the bathroom if you do run out.

Our only tip would be to wear a tampon as they aren’t noticeable with lacier, Boudoiry underwear!

5 - If you wear hair extensions, put them in BEFORE you arrive at the studio.

It is absolutely fine to wear extensions, but just make sure they are in before we start styling your hair. A professional hair styling session and make-over is included in your Boudoir session with us, we allocate enough time to cleanse your face, style your hair and do your beautiful make-up but adding in hair extensions from scratch is one hell of a job and can take up a lot of time! Also, ideally, the hair extensions will be ones that you can style with heat (i.e straighten or curl) and if they are not, just make sure you tell us beforehand. We want to make sure we pamper you properly before your Boudoir shoot!

6 - An oldie but a goodie. Nerves are good. Do not talk yourself out of it!

I cannot even tell you how many times I hear that someone almost cancelled their photo shoot before they came in. They have the standard “what am I even doing?” speech, and every doubt or concern runs through their head. You’re doing something that pushes you out of your comfort zone and challenges you, it’s normal to have nerves as you prepare for your Boudoir shoot.

Those same annoying nerves though are what will make your experience so meaningful; they will be what give you that “I DID IT” feeling at the end! So don’t bury them, and don’t let them panic you, just harness it and trust the process. You’re in safe hands and you will feel comfortable as soon as you walk through the door, promise. You will ADORE your Boudoir photos, promise.
